World Environment Day is celebrated in many different ways in many different countries such as Kenya, New Zealand, Poland, Spain and the United States, and many more. They take part in activities such as street rallies and parades, as well as concerts, tree planting, and clean-up campaigns. In many countries, this yearly event is used to enhance political attention and action towards improving the environment.

Background.

World Environment Day was found by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Another resolution, adopted by the General Assembly the same day, led to the creation of UNEP. It is hosted every year by a different city and commemorated with an international exposition through the week of June 5th.

World Environment Day is noticed every year on June the 5th to raise global awareness on taking positive environmental action to help protect nature and planet Earth.  World Environment day is run by the United Nations Environment program. World Environment Day is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. It began in 1974, and it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is celebrated widely in over 100 different countries.
